What is recorded
- Server logs. Every hit on the server is written down: IP, clock time, the page fetched, where the visitor was linking from and how the browser identifies itself. Those lines exist to keep the site up and to catch misuse.
- Cookies. Two are placed on every page and two more only after a /go/ link; names and lifetimes are in the cookie policy.
- Mail sent to us. The sender’s address and the message are kept only to reply.
The site has no accounts, newsletter, comment form or analytics script, so nothing beyond this is gathered.
Who else handles it
Logs are processed by our host. Clicking a /go/ link hands that click to the operator, whose privacy policy governs what happens next. Personal information is never sold.
Where it is held
The server that holds the logs may be outside New Zealand, and the publisher is based in Curaçao.
Seeing or correcting your information
New Zealand’s Privacy Act 2020 entitles you to request the information we keep on you and to get errors fixed. Write to [email protected] with enough to find the record — roughly when you visited, for instance. If our reply leaves the matter unresolved, the Privacy Commissioner (privacy.org.nz) accepts complaints.
